Stress fracture vs runstreak

On the 4th of August this year I ran the longest race of my life. It was the Devil o’ the Highlands. 42 miles on the West Highland Way. After 30 miles I was aware of some discomfort in my right foot. I ignored it as pretty much everything hurt by then anyway.
Things didn’t improve over the following days. It wasn’t really sore but it was definitely not right so I visited the doctor and got sent for an x ray, which revealed a minor stress fracture of the 4th metatarsal. Once I had seen the doctor again, I was told that 6-8 weeks should allow it to heal.
No mention was made about not running. Now this could be because the doctor assumed it was a given or because she knows me better.

Anyway the last day I did not run was 27 September 2013. Do you see where I am going? There are lots of positives to a runstreak but the one downside that I know of is that the further you go, the harder it is to stop. As I near 5 years, there was no way I was giving up easily. So as I write it’s stress fracture 0 - runstreak 1.
